Why it sticks

   It is completely surrounded by South Africa, one of only three countries enclosed by a single other country.

   The whole country lies above 1,000 m, giving it the world's highest lowest point; it is called the Kingdom in the Sky.

   The flag shows a black Basotho hat (mokorotlo) on blue, white and green stripes.

• High, treeless mountains and grassy valleys, often brown and dry in winter.
• Small stone houses and round rondavels with thatched or tin roofs.
• People wrapped in Basotho blankets, often on horseback or with donkeys.
• Drives on the left like South Africa, but landscape is far more mountainous.
