Why it sticks

   Montenegro means "black mountain" — Crna Gora in the local language.

   The Bay of Kotor looks like a fjord but is a drowned river canyon lined with medieval towns.

   It became independent from Serbia after a 2006 referendum and uses the euro without being in the EU.

• Much of the coverage is older Generation 3 imagery.
• Licence plates have a blue strip with "MNE" and the coat of arms, but no EU stars.
• Signs in both Latin and Cyrillic script.
• Rugged grey karst mountains plunging into the Adriatic, with red-roofed stone houses.
